Who we are
Lize-Mari, the owner of OT Kids, is a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 10 years of experience helping children thrive, from mastering motor skills to managing sensory needs. As a parent of four, she brings both professional expertise and a personal understanding of family life to every session.
OT Kids is dedicated to a neuro-affirming, family-centred approach, guided by the social model of disability.
The social model of disability transforms our paediatric OT practice by focusing on removing societal barriers, not "fixing" children. This neuro-affirming, family-centred approach celebrates each child’s strengths, promotes inclusion, and empowers families to advocate for change. By addressing environmental challenges and fostering equity, we help children thrive in their communities while reducing stigma and building confidence.

How we work
INITIAL CONSULT
Our initial OT consultation for NDIS participants is a parents-only session where we dive into your child’s needs, strengths, and goals within their NDIS plan. This focused time allows us to gather insights, discuss funding, and plan tailored support—all before meeting your child.
CHILD ASSESSMENT
Our focused OT evaluation brings your child into the spotlight, where we assess their skills, challenges, and progress through play-based activities and standardized tools. This hands-on session is designed to measure abilities in areas like mobility, self-care, and sensory processing, shaping their NDIS goals with precision
THERAPY PLAN
The occupational therapist will then determine the number of sessions required to address the child’s challenges and develop a tailored intervention plan accordingly. If a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is deemed necessary, it will also be conducted during this phase.
THERAPY
Therapy will take place using the social model of intervention, focusing on enhancing the child’s participation in everyday settings like home and school by adapting environments and leveraging strengths. The occupational therapist collaborates with families and key individuals to create practical, person-centered strategies that foster independence and engagement, tailored to the child’s unique needs.
